We are currently seeking experienced Physician Assistants to join our team and provide high-quality medical care within the Department of Corrections system.

Job Description
As a Temporary/Relief Physician Assistant assigned to the correctional facility, you will play a crucial role in delivering direct patient care within the correctional healthcare setting. Under the direction of the Institution/Facility CEO/CME or designee, you will provide services consistent with established standards and principles of medical practice, ensuring the well-being of patients/youths under the jurisdiction of the State of California.

Qualification Requirements
  1. Two (2) years of experience in Family Medicine/Family Practice (adult) as a Physician Assistant within the last three (3) years, including direct patient care in a public or private institution/facility.
  2. Possession and maintenance of a current and valid license issued by the Physician Assistant Board to practice as a Physician Assistant in the State of California, including adherence to all laws and regulations governing the practice of Physician Assistants.
  3. Proficiency in the English language is necessary for effective communication with the Department of Corrections staff.

Specialty Services Requirements:

  • Temporary/Relief Physician Assistants working in specialized areas such as emergency medicine, surgery, etc., must have at least two (2) years of experience providing patient care within that setting.
  • Those providing services to female Institutions/Facilities must have at least one (1) year of experience in obstetric and gynecological nursing or patient care services within the last five (5) years.

Service Delivery Requirements:

  • Provide high-quality services consistent with established standards and principles of medical practice.
  • Adhere to department medical staff by-laws, rules, regulations, policies, and procedures.
  • Comply with universal infection control precautions.

Authorization and Clinical Reviews:

  • Obtain prior authorization for treatment and transportation/transfers as required by law and department policies.
  • Perform clinical reviews as requested by supervisors, including participation in Professional Practice Committee activities.
